Outreach of KVK in Ahmednagar District |
Inputs & Services |
During the initial period, the inputs
and services were provided from the concerned departments. As the
response increased for inputs and services, the time involved of the
concerned SMS for each farmer increased which resulted in hampering
other activities of the concerned department. While considering all
these
issues, it was decided that one window system should be developed to provide all these inputs and services. During the year 2006, Farmers Service Center (FSC) was established at the entrance of the KVK campus. Display board was fixed near the service center depicting all the detailed information of the inputs and services available in this center. Biopesticides, biofertilizers, foliar nutrients, botanical pesticides, various types of pheromone traps or pest management tools, plant nutrient diagnosis facilities, seeds and seedlings, chicks of improved breed of poultry, VCD and publication, processed products, spirulina etc. are exhibited in this center so that farmers can see all these inputs and services at one place and avail the information. Well trained agriculture graduate is deputed in this center to provide inputs, services as well as technical information. Village wise, block wise, district wise, input wise, month wise database of the beneficiaries is being maintained in this center. Feedback and suggestions by farmers about inputs & services is communicated to concerned SMS for necessary action. Based on the feedback and suggestion, KVK is developing technical literature, informative material as well as providing the new inputs and services. In this center, KVKs products are being sold besides some inputs which are not available in the local market. Due to this, the adoption and diffusion of technologies have been increased. Due to providing the discount on bulk purchase, groups of farmers are approaching toKVK and purchasing inputs from this center. Due to this group purchase, adoption of the technology in the groups has also increased. Annually more than 10,000 farmers are taking benefit of different inputs and services through this Farmers Service Center. |
Outreach of KVK through Major Mandatory Activities |
KVKs has given major focus to bridge the
gap between National Agriculture Research System (NARS) and the
agriculture extension systems by conducting various mandatory activities
assigned by the ICAR. With the increasing these activities of the KVK,
there were increasing demands for various technologies, inputs, services
and concepts from the farming community. This has helped to increase the
outreach of the KVK in the district. Ahmednagar is the largest district
in the state and divided in North and South district. As the KVK is
located in the North part of the district, farmers from the Northern
parts of the district have taken more benefits of the KVK activities.
During the year 2011, one additional KVK is sanctioned for this district
which is working for the South Ahmednagar district since 2011. No. of Beneficiaries and Villages covered under Major Mandated Activities of KVK
With limited staff,
infrastructure and financial support from ICAR, it was difficult to
increase the outreach of KVK in the district. Therefore, KVK implemented
different concepts and projects with financial assistance of various
organizations. Group dynamics is one of important concept initiated to
involve progressive farmers, rural youth and farmwomen through which
more than 150 villages were networked and brought nearly 15000 farmers,
village youths and farmwomen under umbrella of KVK. Similarly use of ICT
in agriculture is also one of important programme which has connected
thousands of farmers to KVK directly or indirectly. Similarly due to
production and supply of various important critical inputs and service,
thousands of farmers are connected to KVK. No. of Beneficiaries under Carious Activities Besides Mandated Activities of KVK
